Sustainability · Downgauging

14 g/m² — the lightest printable breathable backsheet we run.

The cheapest plastic, environmentally speaking, is the plastic you never made. Downgauging — reducing the gsm of a film without compromising performance — is the most under-reported sustainability lever in our industry.

Why GSM is the lever that compounds

A baby-diaper backsheet at 18 g/m² versus 22 g/m² is a 22% reduction in plastic per unit. Multiplied across a 50-million-diaper-per-month brand SKU, that\'s 200 tonnes of plastic that doesn\'t get made, shipped, used and then recycled (or worse, not recycled). And it carries straight to the brand owner\'s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) obligation.

What Rhyfeel makes possible

  • Cast PE Film (both Breathable and Non-Breathable variants) runs reliably down to 10 g/m².
  • Our W&H MIRAFLEX II flexo press prints on 12 g/m² substrate at 500 m/min — so downgauging doesn\'t force you to choose between weight and brand graphics.
  • Customer-spec QC ensures the downgauged film still hits target WVTR, tensile and hydro-head.

The conversation we have with new customers

The first question we ask isn\'t "what gsm do you want?" — it\'s "what gsm does your absorbent system actually need?". Most established SKUs are over-specified by 1–3 gsm because nobody re-tested the lower bound. That\'s a free downgauge waiting to happen — and a measurable sustainability story your brand can put on the box.
